Flagstaff, AZ to Holbrook, AZ 94 miles

I phone is highly overated for picture taking. This could be anyone, but it is me and Roy standin on the corner in Winslow, AZ

Wind whistling outside of Winslow, Arizona

This is the mountain right outside Flagstaff, Arizona as we were leaving this a.m

Today the ride was 94 miles from Flagstaff, AZ to Holbrook, AZ. Early on we had a helping tailwind and also a 2000 foot elevation drop. This allowed us to make great time to the first SAG (support and gear stop). We then fought the wind the rest of the day. Roy M and I worked as a team today and shared the pulling duties. This allowed us to bike the 94 miles in a little over 5 hours, averaging right at 18 mph.

The highlight of today was going through Winslow if you count that as a highlight. Yes, I truly did stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ. Didn't see the girl in a flatbed Ford, but saw a chunky young lass ordering ice cream at the local DQ. Our rock star status continues to escalate the farther we get from California.

Our second SAG stop was at the Jackrabbit trading post where I had my pic made astride the giant jackrabbit or was it a cottontail. As soon as Roy sends me the pic, then I will publish although I will probably have to buy these back at a later time. Roy had way too much dignity to take a pic astride a giant bunny. Not the giant maneating bunny of the Monty Python variety. It is too bad all these small businesses on old route 66 are dying or dead and don't yet know it.

We did also get a pic of the world famous Wigwam motel as we were coming into town. Someone had driven all the way from Cincinnati to stay there after having been in town last year only to find it fully booked. Deperate people lead desperate lives. Something like that.

Well tomorrow is another hard day of almost 90 miles, although the forecast is for a favorable tailwind.

Tailwinds.......

Ty
